What is organizational loyalty?

Company loyalty is the psychological attachment of an individual to a company, which includes feelings of engagement, loyalty, and belief in the values of the company. Modern research has established several important factors that determine organizational loyalty:

  • Employment Procedures - Employees' sense of belonging often begins to develop long before they join an organization. The first contact between an organization and a prospective employee is important.

  • Expectations – Employees are more loyal when there is a match between a person’s expectations and job offers.

  • Appointment and training - in the process of appointment, training is of great importance. As it turned out, loyalty is associated with employees' perception of the organization's efforts to ensure their development.

  • Relationships with Managers - Employees who have a good relationship with their immediate managers have a higher degree of loyalty.

  • Relationships with colleagues and belonging to the team - it is important that the company has a sense of collective belonging. That is why organizations that want to achieve a high level of loyalty, should try to find ways that will ensure loyalty through teamwork both at work and outside of work.

  • Organizational fairness and trust - employee loyalty is partly shaped by their perception of how fair the company treats them, and whether employers care about the well-being of their employees.

  • Promotion - Loyalty is also affected by employee promotion policies and practices.

  • Work-life balance – Employees should feel like they can achieve work-life balance. It is important to create programs that help ease the workload for employees; e.g. flexible working hours, rest time, etc.

  • Salary and bonuses – Salary makes loyalty to an organization valuable. Satisfying the material needs of employees is one way to achieve their loyalty.
